Se déroulant sur un total de 2 151 km, ces 18 routes franchissent montagnes et vallées, épousent le littoral, côtoient des cascades et traversent de riches paysages culturels, ainsi que de ravissants villages de pêcheurs.
Il est difficile de traduire en mots la magie exercée par le soleil de minuit Nimbant le paysage de profondes nuances dorées, il peut provoquer d’intenses émotions. Les longues soirées et nuits lumineuses du nord de la Norvège ne vous laisseront certainement pas indifférent. On peut se promener en montagne, se baigner dans la mer, marcher le long de plages de sable fin, aller pêcher ou observer les baleines au beau milieu de la nuit. Et la bonne nouvelle, c’est qu’il est beaucoup plus facile de partir en quête du soleil de minuit que d’une aurore boréale. Plus vous allez vers le nord, plus la saison du soleil de minuit dure longtemps. Avec plus de 20 000 km de sentiers balisés, la Norvège est un véritable paradis pour les randonneurs. Parmi les plus connus, citons le Krossobanen de Rjukan, le Loen Skylift, le Fjellheisen à Tromsø et l’Ulriksbanen de Bergen. Le Krossobanen a été le premier du genre en Europe et le Loen Skylift est l’une des télécabines ayant la plus forte pente du monde – elle vous conduit du fjord au sommet du mont Hoven (1 011 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la mer) en cinq minutes.

Glissez au fil de l’eau sur un fjord, un lac, une rivière ou en bord de côte. Découvrez l’archipel de la Norvège du Sud avec ses milliers d’îles et d’îlots ou pagayez de plage en plage entre deux villages de pêcheurs idylliques en Norvège du Nord. En vous inscrivant à l’un de ces « safaris » avec guide, vous aurez tout loisir de les observer à bonne distance, en toute sécurité. Partez observer les baleines et les crabes royaux en Norvège du Nord, le bœuf musqué dans le massif de Dovrefjell ou encore les élans et les castors en Norvège de l’Est. La Norvège est également une destination prisée pour l’observation d’oiseaux, en raison de ses colonies d’oiseaux marins, la présence d’espèces arctiques et de la plus grande population d’Europe de pygargues à queue blanche. On peut également observer des animaux rares (et en même temps, une sublime nature sauvage) à la faveur d’une sortie guidée dans un parc national norvégien.

Il y a plus de 1 000 fjords dans le pays, dont certains sont célèbres dans le monde entier et d’autres totalement inconnus. Sans vouloir en rien déprécier les fjords les plus connus comme le Hardangerfjord, le Sognefjord et les fjords inscrits au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO du Geirangerfjord et du Nærøyfjord, il ne faut pas oublier qu’un fjord urbain comme l’Oslofjord et les fjords de Norvège du Nord procurent eux aussi de merveilleuses expériences de voyage.
