Pour en atteindre le sommet, vous pouvez joindre une course guidée depuis l’un des refuges gardés de l’Association norvégienne de randonnée pédestre (DNT) – par exemple Juvasshytta ou Spiterstulen.

Passion nationale

La Norvège est en grande partie composée de montagne et d’espaces sauvages. Sommets dentelés et rochers arrondis sont des marqueurs importants de l’identité nationale. Les Norvégiens fréquentent depuis longtemps la montagne pour leurs loisirs. Sur tout le territoire, on s’y échappe le week-end et pendant les vacances pour respirer l’air pur à pleins poumons.

Près de la moitié des habitants du pays a accès à un chalet privé, nommé hytta en norvégien. Il existe des milliers de refuges gardés, les fjellstuer, et de chalets non gardés avec ou sans provisions de vivres. Bon nombre de ces chalets sont gérés par l’Association norvégienne de randonnée pédestre (DNT). Certains chalets et refuges récents affichent même un design étonnant, ultramoderne, dû à des architectes de renom. Souvent, on y mange une cuisine à base d’ingrédients locaux – élan, cerf, truite ou renne.

La randonnée est l’activité de pleine nature préférée de nombreux Norvégiens. On peut ainsi choisir parmi des milliers de kilomètres de sentiers balisés de difficulté variable. Même si le droit d’accès à la nature garantit la liberté de déplacement dans les espaces naturels, pensez à rester sur les sentiers pour minimiser l’impact de votre passage et respecter la vie privée.

Il est tout à fait possible de combiner vacances urbaines et randonnées en montagne. Bergen, Ålesund, Bodø et Tromsø sont par exemple très proches des montagnes.

En hiver, des installations de ski alpin permettent de pratiquer ce sport à tous les niveaux. La plupart des grandes stations de ski se trouvent dans le sud de la Norvège, facilement accessibles depuis les aéroports, les ports et les gares. Si vous êtes amateurs de sensations fortes, les reliefs de la Norvège des Fjords et de la Norvège du Nord sont parfaits pour le ski de randonnée.

Si le temps le permet, vous pouvez aisément trouver des pistes de ski de fond, aussi bien à proximité de la ville qu’en pleine campagne.

Vous voulez faire de la randonnée en hiver ? Pas de problème ! La raquette à neige est une activité populaire, qui constitue une excellente activité physique.

On peut aussi faire l’ascension du rocher de la Chaire, autre formation montagneuse exceptionnelle, tout au long de l’année.

Si vous ne vous sentez pas d'attaque pour vous lancer dans une randonnée difficile, de nombreuses montagnes sont équipées d’un funiculaire ou téléphérique, comme celui de Loen, en Norvège des Fjords.

Il est important de suivre les sentiers balisés. L’Association norvégienne de randonnée pédestre (DNT) signale les itinéraires de randonnée les plus sûrs en montagne par des T peints en rouge, facilement repérables. N’oubliez pas de les chercher quand vous randonnez.

Les saisons en montagne

Votre expérience de la montagne norvégienne variera fortement selon l’époque à laquelle vous vous y trouvez.

L’été est la meilleure saison pour parcourir les vastes vallées et partir à l’assaut des spectaculaires sommets. Les sentiers les plus populaires peuvent parfois être très fréquentés au pic de la saison d’été.

En automne, la nature se prépare en vue de l’hiver et se pare d’une formidable palette de rouges et d’ors. La qualité de l’air et l’intensité des couleurs sont stupéfiantes. L’automne est la saison des mûres arctiques, des myrtilles, des perdrix et des rennes. Il est toujours possible de faire de la randonnée, mais les chutes de neige impromptues ne sont pas exclues.

En hiver, une bonne partie de la Norvège se transforme en paradis blanc. Il faut garder à l’esprit que, dans certaines régions, les hivers peuvent être à la fois sombres et froids.

L’hiver est la plus longue des saisons en montagne. Avec l’arrivée du printemps, la nature renaît, incitant les visiteurs à parcourir monts et vallées à pied et à vélo, à pêcher dans les innombrables lacs de montagne.

Cinq choses à retenir sur les montagnes norvégiennes

  1. Le point culminant de Norvège est le Galdhøpiggen dans le parc national de Jotunheimen. Il culmine à 2 469 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la mer. Il fut conquis pour la première fois en 1850 par trois amis des environs de Lom : un instituteur, un choriste et un fermier.
  2. Le deuxième plus haut sommet norvégien est le Glittertind, lui aussi situé dans le parc national de Jotunheimen. Il culmine à 2 464 mètres d’altitude, neige éternelle comprise.
  3. En Norvège, tout ce qui dépasse la limite des arbres est considéré comme étant une montagne. Celle-ci peut donc se trouver au niveau de la mer dans l’extrême nord du pays, ou aux alentours de 1 200 mètres au sud.
  4. La Norvège compte entre 230 et 300 pics montagneux dépassant 2 000 mètres, selon le calcul utilisé.
  5. Plus de 1 000 sommets culminent à plus de 1 650 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la mer.
