Des fjords de l’ouest aux montagnes de l’est et aux îles sous le soleil de minuit, plus au nord, le vélo est sans conteste l'un des meilleurs moyens de profiter des magnifiques paysages norvégiens, et ce, à votre rythme. Voici 13 des plus éblouissants itinéraires cyclables du pays.
Même si le pays est à la fois tout en longueur et montagneux, il n’est pas indispensable d’être en top forme pour partir en rando à vélo sur les routes norvégiennes. Le grand avantage des itinéraires de cyclotourisme longue distance, c’est que l'on peut décider de la longueur précise de chaque étape et de leur nombre.
Nous avons compilé une série d'itinéraires cyclotouristiques longue distance que l’on peut raccourcir ou rallonger, selon le type de vacances souhaité. Ces circuits sont à la portée de la plupart d’entre nous, mais si la route vous semble un peu trop longue et votre chargement un peu trop pesant, il est possible de louer un vélo électrique pour adoucir l’expérience. Et pourquoi ne pas opter pour un forfait clé en main avec hébergement et repas compris, voire même le transfert de vos bagages ?

La route des Terrassiers – Rallarvegen en norvégien – a reçu à plusieurs reprises le titre de plus jolie rando à vélo de Norvège et plus de 25 000 cyclistes parcourent chaque année la route de gravier ralliant Haugastøl, près de Geilo en Norvège de l’Est, à Flåm, en Norvège des Fjords. L’itinéraire épouse le tracé des lignes de chemin de fer de Bergen et Flåm, ce qui se comprend aisément puisque la route doit son nom aux terrassiers qui l’utilisaient pour le transport des matériaux de construction de la voie ferrée, aux alentours de 1900.
L’itinéraire le plus classique est long de 82 km, avec un départ en montagne, à Haugastøl, à 1 000 m d'altitude. Vous passerez par Finse, Hallingskeid et Myrdal, avant d'aboutir au charmant village de Flåm au bord de l’Aurlandsfjord. Quoique la majeure partie de l’itinéraire soit de la descente, le point culminant de la Rallarvegen est Fagernut, à 1 310 mètres. Heureusement, il abrite un café qui sert de délicieuses gaufres à la confiture et à la crème aigre.
Vous pouvez réaliser l’intégralité de l'itinéraire en une seule journée, mais il est de coutume de le scinder en deux ou trois étapes. Il peut être intéressant de prendre un forfait cyclo comprenant l’hébergement, les repas, la location de vélos et les billets de train.
Il faut être en bonne condition physique pour réaliser la Rallarvegen, le relief pouvant être éprouvant par endroits. Pour éviter la foule, partez en dehors de la haute saison.

L'une des régions qui se prête le mieux au vélo en Norvège est Valdres, en Norvège de l'Est. Certains itinéraires balisés empruntent des centaines de kilomètres de routes de montagne peu fréquentées. Avec 250 km, Mjølkevegen est le plus long d’entre eux. Vous n’êtes évidemment pas obligé de le parcourir d’une seule traite et pouvez doser vos étapes à votre guise – courtes et nonchalantes ou longues et intenses. Vous pouvez aussi opter pour un point de chute et rayonner à la journée.
L’itinéraire reliant Vinstra, dans la vallée de Gudbrandsdalen, et Gol, dans celle de Hallingdal, est considéré comme l'un des plus beaux de Norvège et fait partie de la véloroute nationale numéro 5. Il est balisé dans les deux sens et traverse une région pourvue de fermes d'altitude et d'auberges, où vous pourrez vous arrêter pour vous restaurer ou passer la nuit. Il y a aussi quelques hôtels sur ce trajet.
Au lieu de parcourir Mjølkevegen dans son intégralité, vous pouvez suivre l’itinéraire de Lemonsjø à Beitostølen (205 kilomètres) ou encore, pour une sortie plus courte à réaliser en famille, celui de Vaset à Storefjell (35 kilomètres).
Il est possible de louer des vélos, y compris électriques, à plusieurs endroits sur le chemin et des organisateurs de voyages proposent des forfaits vélos comprenant l’hébergement, la restauration et le transfert des bagages.

Le canal du Telemark n’est pas fait que pour les bateaux. Partant du canal, qu’on surnommait jadis la huitième merveille du monde, des pistes cyclables se déploient dans toutes les directions possibles. Les itinéraires sont balisés et évalués par niveaux de difficulté. Vous avez le choix entre routes bitumées, sentiers de gravier ou un mélange des deux.
L’itinéraire du Canal, long de 115 km, vous entraîne à travers les paysages surprenants, sauvages et impressionnants du Telemark. Il suit la véloroute numéro 2 d’Ulefoss à Dalen et vous devriez prévoir au moins deux journées pour ce trajet. À Eidsfoss vous pouvez traverser l’écluse avec votre vélo et si vous êtes fatigué, prendre place à bord d’un des bateaux naviguant sur le canal.
En cours de route, vous trouverez des hébergements pour cyclistes, comme les drôles de « boîtes de couchage » de Bandaksli et Fjågesund. Si vous ne souhaitez pas organiser tout le voyage par vous-même, vous pouvez prendre un forfait comprenant l’hébergement, la restauration et les places à bord du bateau.
L’itinéraire du canal est classé difficile et est déconseillé pour les enfants ou les cyclistes sans expérience. Mais la plupart des autres sentiers sont plus faciles et conviendront à toute la famille. Les plus petits seront même heureux de parcourir quelques kilomètres de plus pour une journée au parc aquatique de Bø sommarland !

Faites le Tour de Dovre et traversez les trois parcs nationaux des Rondane, de Dovre et de Dovrefjell, avec en toile de fond de superbes paysages de montagnes, fjords et vallées. L’itinéraire offre de nombreuses solutions d’hébergement, de sorte que vous pouvez lui consacrer autant de journées que vous le souhaitez. Allez à Dombås en train, louez votre vélo et prenez la route de Nasjonalparkveien jusqu’à Hjerkinn. Poursuivez votre périple par la vallée de Folldalen avant d’arriver à ce que d’aucuns qualifient de plus belle vallée de Norvège, la Grimsdalen. De là, regagnez Dovre et Dombås.
L’itinéraire le plus court est long de 125 km, mais prévoyez quelques détours en cours de route si vous avez le temps ! Vous pouvez en profiter pour faire une sortie guidée et observer les bœufs musqués ou les élans, faire une pause artistique à Hjerkinn, monter jusqu’au belvédère de Snøhetta (1,5 km de marche) et faire l’ascension du mont Snøhetta.
Ce circuit est jugé difficile, mais il est totalement réalisable lorsqu’on le divise en petites étapes. Si vous avez besoin d’un petit coup de pouce, vous pouvez louer un vélo électrique. De plus, vous trouverez en chemin de délicieux points de ravitaillement pour entretenir votre motivation.

Au total, la véloroute de la mer du Nord couvre 6000 km. Elle passe par le Royaume-Uni, la Belgique, les Pays-Bas, l’Allemagne, le Danemark, la Suède et la Norvège. Depuis 2003, elle figure au livre des records Guinness comme plus long itinéraire cyclable balisé du monde, sans interruption.
Parcourez l’un de ses plus jolis passages, entre Egersund et Sola, en Norvège des Fjords (également nommé piste Jærruta). Vous longerez les plages de Jæren, dans une lumière qui a inspiré de nombreux peintres, photographes et écrivains. Si vous souhaitez un parcours plus conséquent, vous pouvez poursuivre en direction du nord vers Stavanger et Haugesund, ou dans la direction opposée, vers Kristiansand, en Norvège du Sud.
Passez la nuit dans un hôtel, une petite pension, un phare, un chalet ou un camping. Vous trouverez de nombreux petits restos sur votre parcours, dont beaucoup font honneur aux produits locaux. Ici, vous pourrez emprunter la route du littoral – classée parmi les plus jolies routes du monde – sur fond de superbes montagnes, de plages immaculées et d’une myriade d’îles et d’îlots.
N’hésitez pas à prendre l’un des nombreux ferries et vedettes qui vont d’île en île, notamment dans l’archipel classé par l’UNESCO de Vega, ainsi que les belles îles de Herøy, Dønna et Træna – dont la silhouette altière surprend les passagers au bout de 2 h 30 de traversée.
Vous voudrez peut-être investir dans un forfait vélo, pour être certain de ne manquer aucun des sites remarquables jalonnant ce parcours (comme le mont Torghatten !). Vous pouvez également faire porter vos bagages jusqu’à l’étape suivante pour vous délester.

Voyagez sans vous presser entre des sites historiques, dans le magnifique paysage culturel d’Innherred. Cette route vous mènera littéralement de délice en délice – la route d’Or est réputée pour ses produits bios et ses activités écologiques.
Partez de Steinkjer et rejoignez Stiklestad (71 kilomètres), où vous pourrez découvrir un pan de l’histoire norvégienne, puisque c’est ici que le roi Olav II – qui fut plus tard canonisé – périt dans la fameuse bataille qui conclut le processus de christianisation de la Norvège. Ou bien optez pour l’itinéraire plus court du Borgenfjord (30 kilomètres). Vous trouverez en chemin de charmantes fermes ou hôtels pour la nuit. Vous pouvez également choisir un forfait vélo clé en main, avec location de vélo, hébergement, restauration et transfert des bagages. Vous trouverez aussi des locations de vélos à Steinkjer.
Les pistes d’Innherred et Inderøy sont à la portée de la majorité des cyclistes.

Si vous voulez découvrir le Nord-Ouest sous son meilleur jour, vous pouvez effectuer LE tour classique des fjords, de Molde à Ålesund en Norvège des fjords. Si vous envisagez de faire le circuit complet, soit 549 kilomètres, vous aurez la chance de parcourir la route de l’Atlantique, la route de Trollstigen, les rives du Geirangerfjord et de l’Hjørundfjord, pour ne citer que quelques grands lieux.
En cours de route, vous passerez sur des ponts enjambant l’océan, longerez de magnifiques bras de fjord, traverserez de superbes vallées et gravirez des versants escarpés – que vous dévalerez une fois le sommet atteint.
Vous trouverez de nombreux restaurants servant des produits locaux – les fjords se distinguent tout particulièrement – et les solutions d’hébergement ne manquent pas, que vous souhaitiez dormir dans une cabane de pêcheurs ou dans un hôtel de luxe.
Le circuit complet est classé difficile et s’adresse plus spécialement aux cyclistes ayant déjà parcouru de longues distances. Toutefois, l’excellent réseau des transports publics régionaux vous permet de composer vos propres étapes et, si vous le souhaitez, de vous épargner celles qui vous paraissent trop intenses. Par ailleurs, des agences locales de guides peuvent vous concocter un itinéraire sur mesure, avec transfert de bagages et guide.

L’Oslofjord regorge de chemins côtiers et petites routes, parfaits pour le vélo. L’itinéraire côtier qui va de Moss, dans l’Østfold, à Horten, dans le Vestfold, s’étend sur environ 215 km, mais la région vous permet de doser aisément la longueur de vos étapes – et donc de votre voyage.
Traversez les pimpants villages de Son, Hvitsten, Drøbak et Filtvet, et explorez la capitale norvégienne, Oslo. Si vous avez besoin de vous rafraîchir, vous pourrez toujours piquer une tête dans le fjord.
L’un des grands avantages de cette région, c’est que vous n’avez pas besoin de vous charger en ravitaillement, les lieux de restauration étant nombreux. Il existe de multiples solutions d’hébergement sur les rives de l’Oslofjord – hôtels, auberges, chalets et campings. Ou même, pourquoi pas, cabanes dans les arbres ?

Aéroport le plus proche : Andøya
Dans les Vesterålen, juste au nord des Lofoten, se trouve l’île d’Andøya, avec l’ancien port de pêche d’Andenes à sa pointe nord. Là, vous pourrez louer un vélo et parcourir les 100 km de circonférence de l’île – mais d’abord, vous devriez vous offrir une sortie en mer pour observer les baleines.
Empruntez la jolie Route panoramique de Norvège qui épouse la côte ouest de l’île. Il n’est pas nécessaire de partir à l’aube, le soleil de minuit vous éclairera suffisamment toute la nuit durant. Faites un arrêt au centre spatial avant de poursuivre en direction du pittoresque hameau de Bleik, dont la magnifique plage de sable blanc vous accueillera peut-être à la faveur d’un bain glacé. L'aire de pique-nique de Bukkekjerka offre également une agréable étape, tandis que la ferme Nordtun vous invite à acheter de délicieux fromages et caresser un lama. Alveland, à Dverberg, vend de délicieux petits pains à la cannelle et des savons sympas (!).
Si vous souhaitez prolonger votre séjour sur l’île, il est possible de dormir à Risøyhamn ou à Dverberg. L’itinéraire suit un parcours relativement plat et convient à tous.

Roulez autour du plus grand lac de Norvège. L’itinéraire de Mjøstråkk, long de 250 km, traverse à la fois de beaux paysages culturels et les villes de Gjøvik, Hamar et Lillehammer.
Prenez le temps de faire quelques pauses en chemin. Les sites à voir et visiter ne manquent pas : le musée des Beaux-Arts de Lillehammer, le plus petit atelier de chocolat de Norvège à Gjøvik et Domkirkeodden, à Hamar, où l’on peut voir les vestiges de la cathédrale de Hamar, vieux de 950 ans. Si vous voyagez avec des enfants, poussez jusqu’au parc de loisirs de Hunderfossen, au nord de Lillehammer – vous ne le regretterez pas !
Si vous passez quelques jours dans la région, vous pourrez séjourner dans l’une de ses fermes à la légendaire hospitalité et l’excellente cuisine traditionnelle, souvent mise au goût du jour et composée d’ingrédients de la ferme ou des environs.
L’itinéraire est en général assez facile et convient à la plupart des cyclistes. Il est possible de louer des vélos en plusieurs points de l’itinéraire et, si la fatigue vous nargue, vous pouvez monter à bord du Skibladner, le plus ancien bateau à aubes du monde encore en service.
