Le fjord et les Alpes de Lyngen, situés en région arctique, permettent de pratiquer des activités de plein air originales et familiales, en conjuguant loisirs purs et tourisme durable.
La région du fjord de Lyngen permet d'associer la pratique de sports extrêmes ou d'activités de détente, avec en prime un petit goût d'inédit. Vous ne vous lasserez pas du contraste des paysages et de la beauté de ses sites naturels, à basse comme à haute altitude.
Une chaîne montagneuse arctique de 90 km de long, les Alpes de Lyngen, en constitue l’épine dorsale. Certains de leurs versants les plus abrupts dévalent d’un trait jusque dans le fjord. Leur point culminant est le Jiekkevarre, à 1 833 mètres d’altitude. Glaciers géants, vallées richement boisées et étroits bras de fjords se succèdent tout au long de la chaîne, vous assurant une réserve inépuisable d'activités.
Le Lyngenfjord a reçu la certification Destination de tourisme durable. Il s'agit d'un label prisé, accordé aux seules régions capables d'apporter la preuve des efforts déployés au quotidien pour réduire l’impact environnemental du tourisme et pour préserver la singularité et la nature de la destination. La préservation des paysages qui se déploient jusqu'à la frontière finlandaise, sur laquelle se dresse le cairn des trois royaumes, en dépend.
Un vaste éventail d'activités de plein air peut y être pratiqué : excursions consacrées aux aurores boréales, rando sous le soleil de minuit, sorties d’observation des baleines, ski, pêche, escalade sur glace, saut à l’élastique, traîneau à chiens ou à rennes. Le fjord de Lyngen est en outre un territoire doté d’une vie culturelle animée, que ce soient les actions en faveur de la culture sami menées par le Centre des peuples du Nord ou encore le festival annuel Riddu Riđđu consacré à la culture et à la musique samis.
La cuisine régionale bénéficie d’excellents produits locaux, allant de l’agneau et des crevettes de Lyngen aux succulents baies et champignons cueillis localement. Årøybukt se vante de posséder la distillerie la plus septentrionale du monde. Quant à l’eau du robinet, qui provient directement des torrents cristallins de la montagne, elle est d'une rare pureté.
L’offre d'hébergements englobe de charmants petits hôtels, des campings de qualité et des cabanes de pêcheur. Quant à l’accès par les transports, il est plus facile que ce à quoi l’on pourrait s’attendre.
