La Norvège de long en large

Aimeriez-vous traverser tout un pays à pied ? Traversez la Norvège à pied, du sud au nord ou d’est en ouest ! Les itinéraires ne manquent pas et le plus court d’entre eux ne prend même que quelques heures !

Ces dernières années, les randonnées longue distance ont gagné en popularité, y compris la traversée de la Norvège, de Lindesnes au Sud au cap Nord, dans le Nord (ou vice-versa). Malgré une impressionnante distance de plus de 3 000 km, plus de 465 marcheurs ont accompli l’exploit depuis 1951. Avez-vous déjà entendu parler d’Oda, qui a parcouru la Norvège dans le sens de la longueur en 162 jours l'année de ses 26 ans ?

Si vous n'avez pas envie de passer la moitié de l'année sur les sentiers, tout en voulant impressionner votre entourage, il vous reste de nombreuses autres options. Que diriez-vous plutôt de traverser la Norvège d’est en ouest ? Cela vous donnera un grand choix d’itinéraires et, ce qui n’est pas négligeable, de distances. Les randonnées les plus courtes peuvent se faire en une seule journée !

Vous trouverez ci-dessous plusieurs suggestions d’itinéraires pour traverser la Norvège, dans un sens comme dans l’autre.

Il faut savoir que tous les itinéraires ne sont pas balisés. Pour un aperçu des sentiers régionaux balisés et des cartes, consultez le site de la DNT (Den Norske Turistforening : Association norvégienne de randonnée pédestre) ou de UT.no (en norvégien uniquement, mais avec de très bonnes cartes !).

Il n’existe pas de sentier officiel sur toute la longueur de la Norvège. Vous devrez donc planifier vous-même votre itinéraire.

Traverser la Norvège à pied

Si vous ne pouvez pas consacrer plusieurs mois à une traversée Nord-Sud intégrale, vous pourrez toujours dire que vous avez traversé la Norvège à pied – mais dans le sens de la largeur. Là, selon l’itinéraire choisi, votre randonnée pourra prendre 30 minutes, 3 heures ou même 30 jours. 

Bien évidemment, vous pouvez composer votre propre itinéraire au gré de vos envies.

Le plus court d’entre eux ne mesure en fait que 1 580 mètres... soit tout juste 35 minutes de marche ! Il se situe dans le Finnmark, entre le Bøkfjord, à l’embouchure de la Pasvikelva, et la frontière russe. Toutefois, en raison de la situation politique actuelle, cet itinéraire, qui n’est pas clairement balisé, n’est pas recommandé.

Essayez plutôt, à la place, l’un des itinéraires populaires décrits ici :

1. Le chemin des Terrassiers à Narvik

C’est la manière la plus accessible et distrayante de traverser la Norvège. Démarrez par un joli voyage en train sur l’Ofotbanen ou en bus, depuis la ville arctique de Narvik jusqu’à la frontière suédoise. Là, vous descendez à la gare de Bjørnfjell.

De là, empruntez le Rallarveien, le chemin des Terrassiers, seul ou accompagné d’un guide local. Cet itinéraire de 15 km traverse des paysages sauvages spectaculaires jusqu’à Rombaksbotn au bord de l’Ofotfjord, où vous pourrez prendre un bateau semi-rigide pour rentrer à Narvik (en été). Celui-ci passe en général devant l’épave d’un navire de la Seconde Guerre mondiale – un bon sujet de photo !

2. Le sentier du Tysfjord

La kommune de Tysfjord, entre Bodø et Narvik en Norvège du Nord, est traversée par un itinéraire de 12 km entre Hellmobotn et la frontière suédoise. C’est la deuxième traversée la plus courte de Norvège.

Vous devrez d'abord vous rendre dans le petit village de Drag, puis prendre un bateau à destination d’Hellmobotn (uniquement en été), où se trouve le départ de la randonnée. À noter : le bateau n'assure que quelques traversées par semaine. Consultez attentivement les horaires disponibles sur le planificateur de voyages de Reis Nordland (itinéraire en bateau Tysfjord 18-585) ou contactez l’office de tourisme de Narvik. La randonnée aller-retour prend environ cinq heures. Les environs d’Hellmobotn offrent un cadre agréable pour camper.

3. La traversée officielle, le long du 63e parallèle nord

Une mini-expédition d'une semaine ! Cet itinéraire situé dans le Trøndelag est l'un des plus populaires, même s'il est assez difficile. Il est considéré par beaucoup comme étant la traversée « officielle » de la Norvège. Il traverse le massif montagneux de Sylan (on l’appelle d'ailleurs souvent itinéraire de Sylan), le long du 63e parallèle nord.

Au départ de Stjørdal, cet itinéraire clairement balisé de 120 km de long représente 7 ou 8 jours de marche. On peut également démarrer de l’aéroport de Trondheim Værnes, pour une durée à peu près équivalente. En chemin, on peut dormir dans les petits chalets de la DNT. Le trek finit au lac situé à la frontière suédoise. De là, vous pouvez rejoindre Stugudalen (18 km supplémentaires) à pied ou par un mode de transport que vous aurez organisé. De Stugudalen, des autocars desservent Trondheim et Værnes.

PS : même si le parcours est très beau, certains passages sont très marécageux. Il faut donc prendre des chaussures bien étanches.

4. Le plus long itinéraire

Si vous êtes en quête d’une aventure plus engagée, optez pour l’option la plus longue, comme cet itinéraire entre le parc national de Femundsmarka et le cap Ouest, inspiré par le randonneur professionnel Espen Andreas Nielsen. L’itinéraire, d’environ 640 km, a pris 53 jours à Espen.

Si vous cherchez à multiplier les défis et les expériences, un trek de ce type peut être l’occasion idéale de pratiquer d'autres activités, comme le vélo et le canoë. Il faut simplement prévoir la logistique nécessaire pour utiliser le canoë sur certaines portions de trajet et le renvoyer.

Vous trouverez des chemins de pèlerinage dans toute la Norvège. Les plus populaires d’entre eux sont les neuf chemins de Saint-Olav qui conduisent tous à la cathédrale de Nidaros à Trondheim. Celle-ci abrite le tombeau de saint Olav, qui est le plus important lieu de pèlerinage des pays scandinaves depuis la canonisation du roi viking Olav II Haraldsson en 1031. Ces neuf chemins déroulent au total quelque 3 000 kilomètres à travers la campagne paisible, passant par de pittoresques villages dotés d’un riche héritage culturel, pourvoyeurs de délicieux produits.
