Si vous êtes en quête d’expériences inoubliables en pleine nature, vous ne serez pas déçu. La grande variété des paysages permet de pratiquer la randonnée, le ski, la pêche, les sorties en bateaux semi-rigides, l’équitation ou la plongée sous-marine. L’archipel des Lofoten est également un des sites de surf les plus au nord de la planète.
Il est intimement lié à l’ère viking. Au musée Lofotr Viking de Borg, vous pourrez découvrir comment vivaient les Vikings dans la reconstitution de la plus grande maison de chef viking jamais découverte. Celle-ci mesure 83 mètres de long.
Sous l’effet du Gulf Stream, les Lofoten jouissent d'un climat beaucoup plus doux que d'autres régions du monde situées à la même latitude. Entre fin mai et mi-juillet, on peut faire l’expérience du soleil de minuit, tandis que les aurores boréales, elles, sont visibles de septembre à mi-avril.
La pêche a toujours poussé les hommes à s’installer ici et la région est connue pour ses nombreux petits villages de pêcheurs. Séjournez dans une rorbu, la traditionnelle cabane de pêcheurs, et goûtez au skrei, le cabillaud arctique ainsi qu’au stockfisch, la version séchée de ce dernier.
Les caprices du temps et la magnifique lumière de cette région ont attiré de nombreux artistes dans la région au cours des dernières décennies – ce que l’on devine aisément à la vue des nombreuses galeries d’art et expositions de photos.
