Si vous discutez avec un habitant de la région avant de partir à la pêche, en Norvège du Nord, on vous posera souvent cette mystérieuse question :
« Vous avez bien fait tout ce qu'il faut pour avoir un bon haill, hein ? », suivie d'un petit rire.
Le terme haill signifie que si vous avez eu des ébats amoureux avant d'aller pêcher, vous aurez de plus belles prises, et en plus grand nombre !
C’est une croyance populaire particulièrement en vogue en Norvège du Nord. Si, de prime abord, cela prête à rire, il y a peut-être là matière à réflexion.
La docteure Torunn Christiansen, généraliste à l'hôpital Nordlandsykehuset, s’est longtemps demandé pourquoi les habitants du Nord tenaient toujours à cette croyance, même aujourd'hui.
Le petit coup de boost
Pour sa part, elle interprète ce mythe à la lumière de l’hypothèse théorique suivante :
« La dopamine fait partie des mécanismes de récompense de notre corps. Elle est libérée par l’action, par exemple quand nous chassons ou quand nous sommes comblés sexuellement. Je trouve intéressante cette manière d'associer moyens de subsistance et sexe par l’intermédiaire du haill », remarque Torunn Christiansen.
« Après l’acte sexuel, notre système cognitif fonctionne mieux : on a plus de facilité à coopérer, on est plus enclin à prendre de meilleures décisions et rien n’empêche donc que l’on attrape plus de poissons », ajoute-t-elle.
Sans parler des relations avec votre partenaire, qui s’en trouveront sans doute aussi améliorées.

Le meilleur moment pour pêcher en mer en Norvège du Nord
La haute saison court de mai à septembre. En été, vous pouvez pêcher 24 h sur 24 en raison du soleil de minuit.
Les mordus de pêche à la ligne seront aussi intéressés par la pêche hivernale, surtout la fameuse pêche au skrei (cabillaud migrateur), entre janvier et mars. Période sombre et froide, mais vous verrez peut-être une aurore boréale danser au-dessus de votre tête.

L'importance d'un bon haill
Mais il y a tout de même un aspect sérieux à cette histoire. Jusque dans les années 30, le haill était spécifiquement associé à la pêche au flétan, un poisson exceptionnel pouvant peser jusqu'à 200 kilos. On le surnommait « reine des mers », car il pouvait vous rapporter de quoi vivre et nourrir votre famille, plus que n’importe quel autre poisson.
De plus, la pêche au flétan était dangereuse et imposait aux pêcheurs de rudes conditions de travail.
« Le haill reflète la relation entre le pêcheur et sa femme. Le terme était réservé à la sphère intime et le dicton disait que votre bien-aimée était la source de votre chance ou haill. Vous deviez choisir la bonne partenaire, qui vous apportait suffisamment de chance pour subvenir aux besoins du foyer, car la femme était la détentrice du haill », explique la spécialiste du folklore Marit Anne Hauan.
Aujourd’hui, on ne dépend plus de la prise d'un flétan pour bien vivre et le terme haill a une connotation plus humoristique. Mais, en Norvège du Nord, on dit toujours « godt haill » pour souhaiter bonne chance à ceux qui s’en vont pêcher.
Le flétan est une prise rare et le cabillaud est la principale source de revenus pour la plupart des pêcheurs de Norvège du Nord. Chaque année, il migre de la mer de Barents pour venir frayer sur la côte nord. Un mets raffiné appelé skrei, qui est désormais le poisson le plus communément associé au haill. Si vous venez dans le Nord, une aventure pêche au skrei est un must !
