La Norvège de l’Ouest est une région de fjords étroits, coupant de hautes montagnes, de chutes d’eau cascadant au flanc des montagnes et de glaciers éternels. Son architecture spectaculaire et ses produits locaux appétissants enrichissent l’expérience.

Les paysages spectaculaires de la Norvège des fjords ont été façonnés lors des ères glaciaires successives et n’ont pas beaucoup changé depuis l’arrivée des premiers habitants de la région. Ici, c’est le royaume des phoques et des aigles et celui des baleines et des poissons qui patrouillent les fjords profonds.

En Norvège de l’Ouest, vous trouverez de tout, des îlots désolés aux villes les plus importantes de Norvège. Quelques minutes de voiture suffisent pour quitter la vie urbaine et jouir du calme de la campagne ou admirer la nature sauvage.

Sur les côtés des fjords, et aux extrémités intérieure et extérieure de chaque fjord, vous trouverez de petites communautés et des villages, chacun avec sa propre spécialité reflétant ses traditions locales, et aussi ce qu’on y cultive.

Dans cette région, il existe de nombreuses vallées fertiles idéales pour la culture des fruits, et les pommes, les poires, les cerises et les fraises sont populaires et cultivées couramment. Le gibier, le poisson ou les moutons, élevés localement, constituent la base de nombreuses spécialités de la Norvège de l’Ouest.

    Des paysages uniques procurent des opportunités uniques d’activités dans la Norvège des fjords.

    Voyagez en partant des petits villages et des villes des zones intérieures des fjords jusqu’à l’extrême côte ouest et ses nombreuses iles et îlots avec leurs vieux campements et leurs cabanes de pêcheurs. Ou partez de Bergen et prenez le train à travers les montagnes, ou l’Express côtier vers le nord en longeant la côte — jusqu’à l’Arctique, si tel est votre désir.

    Vous pouvez aussi choisir de rester et profiter des fjords de la Norvège de l’Ouest qui forment des terrains de jeux naturels pour toutes sortes d’activités marines. De la pêche à la ballade en kayak, en passant par le camping et la plongée sous-marine, vous trouverez de nombreux coins et recoins avec des eaux calmes et des mystères à explorer.

    Dans cette région, les hivers sont doux, et les ports souvent libres de glace, même au cœur de l’hiver. Toutefois, plus loin et plus haut dans les terres, la neige est abondante et offre beaucoup d’opportunités de détente, avec ou sans les skis.

    Sur terrain sec, vous aurez la possibilité d’explorer tout votre soûl, à pied, en voiture ou en vélo. Suivez les routes modernes, les anciennes routes postales ou la route des Terrassiers et transformez ce trajet en une destination à part entière.

    L’Ouest de la Norvège abrite certaines des plus belles réalisations architecturales du pays. L'ancien port hanséatique de Bryggen, à Bergen, est inscrit sur la liste du Patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO. Si vous effectuez un circuit dans cette région, sachez que la plupart des plus jolies Routes panoramiques de Norvège s’y trouvent : par exemple, Atlanterhavsvegen (route de l’Atlantique) et Geiranger-Trollstigen (route de l’Échelle des trolls). Les magnifiques sites naturels qui ponctuent ces itinéraires sont mis en valeur par de superbes constructions, pleines de créativité et d’originalité.

    Notre dernière réussite est la célèbre église communautaire de Knarvik, située au nord de Bergen, un monument remarquable et spectaculaire, mais aussi une paisible église en bois. L’hôtel Juvet landskapshotell à Geiranger et « The Tree » à Bergen – avec 51 mètres de hauteur, la plus grande maison de bois au monde — valent aussi la peine d’être signalés.

    Enfin, nous devons donner une mention aux nombreux festivals de la Norvège de l’Ouest. Le festival international de Bergen (musique classique, danse et théâtre), celui de Gladmat à Stavanger (gastronomie) et le festival international du film de Haugesund sont juste trois exemples parmi d’autres.
