Welcome to Oleana's brand shop at Strandkaien in Bergen city centre, opposite the Fish Market and tourist information. Oleana takes pride in only using organic natural fibres like merino wool, silk and alpaca. The textile industry is the oldest industry in the world. Oleana is one of the youngest factories in Norway. We are the only one that both knits and sews everything in our own factory. The factory is located just outside of Bergen in Ytre Arna, half an hour from Bergen city centre. You are most welcome to visit the factory where you can see our garments being knitted and sewn, and you can shop at the factory outlet. The factory is open Monday - Wednesday & Fridays 09:00 - 16:00, Thursdays 09:00 - 18:00 and Saturdays 11:00 - 15:00. When Oleana was founded in 1992, we wanted to show that it is still possible to produce textiles of good quality in a high-cost country like Norway. We have always tended towards alternative thinking and going against the main-stream. Oleana's key competitive means are design, quality and flexibility. We first knit on ultra-modern hi-tech machines, then begin sewing and handiwork. Our empolyees have skilled and experienced hands and eyes. We are fully aware of what we want our machines and our people to do. Part of Oleana's identity and status come from it being at the cutting edge between industry and fine craft. Oleana's ambition is to make beautiful clothes, the appearance and quality of which mean that people enjoy wearing them. Oleana's designer, Solveig Hisdal, is the sole designer of all Oleana's creations. You can recognize her signature in the flower ornaments and the especially beautiful colour combinations. Solveig Hisdal has received many design prices. In the year 2000, she was awarded the highly coveted Jacob Prize – Norway's most prestigious award for design, crafts and architecture. People all over the world are becoming more aware of what they buy. By thinking more about the choices we make when we shop, we can share in taking care of our planet. Clothes made from natural fibres, like wool and silk, are good environmental choices. It is becoming more important for us to buy clothing that is produced in a responsible manner. We can no longer accept the humiliating circumstances that many women and children work under in order to produce inexpensive textile products. Oleana's collection is produced in our own factory in Norway. "Fair made" is a slogan we believe we can take pride in using.
