Norway's constitution day 17 May in the Stavanger region

Norway’s National Day fills the Stavanger region with Norwegian flags, children’s parades, brass band music and people in a festive mood, dressed in traditional bunad and their finest attire. The day is celebrated in towns, villages and local communities throughout the region.

Constitution Day is one of the year’s biggest public celebrations. Across the Stavanger region, young and old alike gather for children’s parades, brass band music, speeches, games and local events. The children’s parades are among the day’s major highlights. Schoolchildren, brass bands and flag bearers fill the streets, whilst families, friends and visitors follow the celebrations along the routes. In many places, the programme continues throughout the day with activities and events for the whole family. The Norwegian Constitution was adopted at Eidsvoll on 17 May 1814. Today, children’s parades, flags, brass band music and local celebrations are among the strongest symbols of Norway’s National Day.
