Halloween: Film Music from the Dark (Stavanger Symphony Orchestra)

As darkness falls and the October evenings grow longer, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra brings some of the most chilling music in film history to life.

Together with actor Rolf Kristian Larsen, we will create an evening where the music gets under your skin. From the icy tones of The Dark Knight to the iconic theme from Jaws, we explore music that sends shivers down the spines of audiences around the world. John Williams’ nerve-shredding shark fanfare and Bernard Herrmann’s legendary shower scene from Psycho are among the moments that have defined what fear sounds like.

In Danny Elfman’s music for Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, we encounter vulnerability and melancholy. Meanwhile, Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells draws us into the unsettling atmosphere familiar from The Exorcist.

Through music from films such as Halloween, The Ring, Hannibal, The Grudge, It and Pirates of the Caribbean, we encounter composers Hans Zimmer and John Carpenter, who have shaped modern film music and our collective perception of fear.

In the music from Villmark 2, we sense the sinister presence lurking in the dark forest.

An evening of goosebumps and dark atmospheres – and a reminder of why we love being scared!

Recommended age: 12+, due to theatrical effects and surprises that enhance the spooky atmosphere in the concert hall.
