Conversation in Norwegian: Natur og kultur med Marit Eikemo og Inger Bråtveit

Inger Bråtveit grew up on the Bråtveit farm in Suldal. Marit Eikemo grew up in the industrial town of Odda.

In Suldal, the hydroelectric development in the Ulla/Førre river system has shaped the villages, the people and the stories. In Odda, large-scale industry meets the national romantic tradition of apple cultivation. How do the two authors perceive the tension between development and history, agriculture and industry, nature and culture? How has this been reflected in their books? And what can we learn from these two communities, as we face development and the loss of nature today?

As usual, Jorddøgn opens with a conversation led by UiS Senior Lecturer Brita Strand Rangnes. We’re looking forward to it.

Marit Eikemo is the author of novels, short stories and essays. This autumn, she is set to publish the book *Husdraumar. Forlatne heimar på Vestlandet*.

Inger Bråtveit is an author who has written novels, a children’s book and a collection of poems. Her novel *Vassarv* was recently published in German and Swedish. She also teaches on the creative writing course at Danvik Folk High School.
