Coal Miners' Cabins

PART OF OUR THE MINING HERITAGE

Coal Miners’ Cabins is the place for those who wish to gain a real insight into the mining history on Svalbard. The hotel is located in Nybyen, Longyearbyen’s little ‘satellite town’, and is within walking distance from the town centre. When Longyearbyen was rebuilt after World War II, the miners moved into these new two story barracks. The standard of the accommodations was poor, but compared to the conditions they endured in the mines, it was faultless. Today, these barracks are home to the Coal Miners’ Cabins, although the standard is much improved!

OUTLOOK OVER THE WILDERNESS

Coal Miners' Cabins offers rooms in different price classes. Our standard rooms are simple, but with practical furnishings and views towards the wild Arctic landscape. There are eight bathrooms located in the corridors. In this building, the shared areas are popular, and late nights with long conversations and games might be on the horizon for the adventurous traveller. We also have some larger family rooms which sleep up to four people. A stay at Coal Miners’ Cabins includes the delicious breakfast buffet in ‘Stormessa’. Here you can get a great start onr an exciting day in the Polar wilderness. In the evening, you can let your experiences sink in while you enjoy a beer in the bar and watch the northern lights flitter across the heavens, or cuddle up in an armchair with a good book, whilst you plan the following day’s adventures.
