Il a quitté les célèbres fjords de sa région natale de Bergen pour les terres plus discrètes de la Norvège de l'Est. Ove Gjesdal, qui dirige l’office de tourisme de Lillehammer  et de la vallée de Gudbrandsdalen, nous confie : « J'ai vite été conquis par le caractère discret de cette belle région. Pourtant, ici, quel que soit le moment de l’année, il se passe toujours quelque chose. Je me suis mis au vélo, au ski et à d'autres sports et suis devenu fan des festivals culturels et autres manifestations qui font la réputation de la région. »

Prenez le volant et sillonnez les vallées de Norvège de l'Est en vous ménageant de jolies escales au gré de vos pérégrinations, et profitez des innombrables sites naturels ou culturels que compte la région. Imperceptiblement, vous passerez d'une succession de douces collines à des paysages beaucoup plus spectaculaires.

    Journée 1: Oslo–Lillehammer

    Durée estimée du trajet en voiture : 2 heure et 15 minutes.

    Distance : 183 kilomètres.

    La ville olympique de Lillehammer occupe la pointe sud de la vallée de Gudbrandsdalen. Les traditionnelles maisons de bois de Storgata, la rue principale, sont occupées par de nombreux magasins, restaurants et lieux culturels.

    Rendez-vous au musée d'art de Lillehammer, puis enchaînez avec l'écomusée de Maihaugen. Terminez par le tremplin de saut à ski de  Lysgårdsbakken, avec en prime une vue aérienne sur Lillehammer. Faites étape pour la nuit à Lillehammer.

    Journée 2: Lillehammer–Hafjell–Hunderfossen

    Lillehammer-Hafjell en voiture  : 20 minutes
    Distance : 16 kilomètres.

    Hafjell-Hunderfossen en voiture : 7 minutes.
    Distance : 4 kilomètres.

    Quittez Lillehammer et prenez la direction de Hafjell, au nord. Il s'agit de l'une des principales stations de ski de Norvège. En été, Hafjell se transforme en bike park très prisé.

    L’autre versant de la vallée est quant à lui le royaume du bobsleigh à roues. Enfin, le parc à thème Hunderfossen Eventyrpark, qui fait la part belle aux contes de fées, offre une solution d'hébergement sympathique pour les familles.

    Journée 3: Hunderfossen–Ringebu–Muen

    De Hunderfossen à Ringebu  en voiture  : 40 minutes.
    Distance : 43 kilomètres.

    De Ringebu à Muen en voiture : 30 minutes.
    Distance : 30 kilomètres.

    Continuez à remonter la vallée en direction du nord. Faites escale à l'église en bois debout de Ringebu, puis quittez la route principale (E6) et bifurquez en direction de Venabygdsfjellet, parcourue de sentiers de randonnée pédestre ou équestre.

    Le mont Muen vous offrira un excellent point de vue sur le parc national de Rondane. Passez la nuit à l’hôtel ou au camping à Ringebu ou dans ses environs.

    Journée 4: Ringebu–Gålå–Elgtårnet

    De Ringebu à Gålå en voiture : 30 minutes.
    Distance : 30 kilomètres.

    De Gålå à Elgtårnet en voiture : 50 minutes.
    Distance : 40 kilomètres.

    Traversez la vallée en forme de fer à cheval de Gudbrandsdalen en partant de Gålå. Ce village est célèbre pour sa représentation annuelle en plein air de Peer Gynt. Il constitue en outre un excellent point de départ pour emprunter la route de montagne Peer Gynt jusqu'à la vallée de Espedalen, via Fefor.

    Le gîte Elgtårnet (la Tour des élans) offre un bon poste d’observation pour découvrir les élans dans leur milieu naturel. Plus au sud, les cavités circulaires de Helvete figurent parmi les plus importantes formations rocheuses de ce type en Europe du Nord.

    Journée 5: Elgtårnet/Espedalen–Fagernes

    Durée estimée du trajet en voiture : 2 heure et 40 minutes.
    Distance : 165 kilomètres.

    Valdres s'impose tout naturellement comme la suite logique de ce circuit. La crête de Besseggen a été classée parmi les plus belles randonnées du monde par National Geographic et Bukkelægret offre également la possibilité de randonner à 2 000 mètres d'altitude. Le village de montagne de Beitostølen est niché au pied de la chaîne montagneuse du Jotunheimen.

    À Valdres et dans ses environs, vous avez l’assurance d'avoir de la neige en hiver, ce qui en fait une bonne destination pour le ski. Goûtez la célèbre spécialité culinaire locale, la truite semi-fermentée, qui possède même son festival au mois de novembre – le Rakfisk festival.

    Vous trouverez de nombreuses solutions d'hébergement dans cette région comme, par exemple, à Fagernes.

    Journée 6: Fagernes–Nesbyen or Elverum

    De Fagernes à Nesbyen dans la vallée de Hallingdal : 1 heure et 40 minutes.
    Distance : 90 kilomètres.

    De Fagernes à Elverum dans la vallée de Østerdal : 2 heure et 40 minutes.
    Distance : 175 kilomètres.

    À mi-chemin entre Bergen et Oslo, Hallingdal offre de multiples possibilités d'activités. La vallée possède de nombreux aménagements pour la randonnée, le vélo et le ski. Les petites villes de Gol, Geilo, Ål, Nesbyen et Hemsedal offrent toutes d’excellents pied-à-terre, avec des solutions d'hébergement variées. Pour voir de près des ours et d'autres espèces typiques de la région, visitez le Langedrag Nature Park, ainsi que le parc aux ours (Bjørneparken) de Flå.

    Autre itinéraire possible : vers Elverum dans la vallée de Østerdal.
    La vallée de Østerdal épouse le cours de la plus longue rivière de Norvège, la Glomma. Au sud de Glåmdalen, la vallée prend le nom de vallée de Glåmdal. Celle-ci permet la pratique de toutes sortes d’activités, sur l’eau et dans la montagne. Passez la nuit à Elverum.

    Journée 7: Nesbyen–Nore in Numedal

    Trajet en voiture de Nesbyen (Hallingdal), à Nore (Numedal) : une heure.
    Distance : 65 kilomètres.

    La vallée de Numedal est la plus septentrionale des belles vallées de Norvège de l'Est. En cours de route, vous pourrez visiter quatre églises en bois debout, dignes témoins de sa dynamique histoire. Au Moyen Âge, la vallée de Numedal était en effet une voie commerciale prospère. Chaque été, la Semaine médiévale (Middelalderuka) fait revivre ce chapitre de la vie de la vallée.

    Le parc national de Hardangervidda est particulièrement propice à la randonnée et au ski. Tout au long de la vallée de Numedal, vous trouverez des chalets de bois qui sont devenus sa marque de fabrique, ainsi que d'autres hébergements.

    Journée 8: Nore–Rjukan

    Trajet en voiture de Nore (Numedal), à Rjukan (Telemark) : 1 heure et 50 minutes.
    Distance : 110 kilomètres.

    Depuis Numedal, la route qui rallie la petite ville de Rjukan, dans le Telemark, déborde de ce charme tranquille typique des petites routes norvégiennes. Rjukan se niche dans une vallée inhabituellement étroite – si étroite qu'un miroir reflétant la lumière du soleil a été placé au sommet d'une montagne voisine pour que la ville profite du soleil en hiver.

    Non loin de là, le parc de Hardangervidda vous attend pour randonner ou skier, en fonction de la saison. Par temps clair, du sommet de la Gaustatoppen (1 883 m.), vous pouvez apercevoir jusqu'à un sixième du pays !
