Vigdel beach

Vigdelstranden beach is ideal for families with small children as it's a shallow beach. Photographers also like to visit the area, as it is varied in terms of landscape; a nice blend of flat and rocky terrain.

A lovely little bay with a sandy shoreline between Tjelta and Ræge. The beach is good for swimming on nice summer days. A beach well suited for families with small children, as it's a shallow bay with minimal risk of undercurrents. This also makes it nice to go looking for crabs and playing on the shoreline. A perfect family outing to combine with some cultural history with a visit to the Vigdel fortress.  Recreational area The hike Vigdelsveten is just above the beach, the highest point in the area of Jæren protected landscape area. A lovely with from the top! Vigdel  is furthermore an area with varied typography; for instance there are some rocky attractions here; Steinansiktet (the Stone Face) and Presten (the Priest). The Vigdel fortress is a coastal fortress built by the Germans during WWII. The fortress was built to protect the airport from attacks from the sea. The Norwegian Defence took over the facility in 1945 after the end of the war. The Defence used the facility as a fortress and drone station before it was shut down in 2009. It was then taken over by the Norwegian Directorate for Nature Management (today, merged into the Norwegian Environment Agency). The area today serves as a wonderful hiking area open and accessible to everyone.  It is not recommended to swim in the stream running through the beach.
