Tysåsen

Hike to Tysåsen with a great view and varying lengths

Tysåsen

Wonderful view and a lot of variations for length and difficulty. The goal is the top of Tysåsen which lies 105 masl and has a fantastic view. You can see places such as Torungen lighthouse, Merdø, Hisøya, Arendal, Fevik and the land towards Froland.

How to get to Tysåsen?

There are to alternatives for parking. Either by Hauslandstjenna (by the floodlit trail at Fevik) or by the rest area at Temsevannet (lake)/ the driveway to Nilsesvold. To get to the floodlit trail, take RV 420 by car, towards Fevik/Nedenes and take a left to Hausland (before Strand Hotel). Take a right in the first intersection. The floodlit trail is on the left side of the road, about 500 meter after the intersection. The rest area by Temsevannet is on the left side of the old E 18 road. It is also possible to go by bicycle and start at other points in the trail.

Description

With the startingpoint of Hauslandstjenna, it will be a long trip via the floodlit trail. The trail starts along Hauslandstjenna (lake). Here there are benches made of granite stone that may be used for rest. In the summer you can also go swimming. A bit further in, the trail will split. Tjennheia ski jumping slope used to be here. You can see the remains at the left side of the path. Continue on the trail until you get to Rosenlunde, which is a small, red house. From here, take a left on the hikingtrail under E18 and past Ribegården towards Lia.

Go to the right at the top of the hill (sign with 50-63/ green plastic containers). Follow the road to a small, white house and a stone fence on the left side. Right after the stone fence, a small path goes to the left. On the opposite side, there's a "turning point" (for cars). Follow the trail. Take a right where the trail splits, going steeply up to the right. Go to the top and enjoy the view. The plateau here is great for both playtime and rest.

The descent goes on the other side of the hill. The trail comes out at Esketveitveien. Take a right and follow the road about 400 meter. Take another right at the end of the field, by a gray house. Follow the tractor road (which is a part of the old King's road) back to where the trail to the top started. Take a left in to the trail and another left at the first cross road throught the forest. Go through the underpass (E18) back to the floodlit trail. The hike will be around 6 km in total if you choose the shortest path.

Another alternative is with the starting point by the parking and rest area by Temsevannet/ the driveway to Nilsesvold. Cross over former E18 and go straight ahead. Take a left and then to the right after a tripple garage. Follow the trial up to a field and walk along the field until the trial goes steeply up to the left. Then follow the same description as above with the "turning point" in alternative 1. Then make a right before the stone fence. Follow the trail back. In total, this alternative should be around 4 km.

For a shorter alternative, you can walk to the top and go the same way back.
