Join our experienced crew on board our authentic fishing boat during the traditional winter fishing. Catch your own fish, prepare it and make it for dinner. Our winter fishing includes 4-hours sea fishing with line wheel and/or sea fishing rod.
Fishing in Lofoten varies greatly with the season, and during the traditional Lofotfisket, from end of February to mid-April, we catch skrei. Our winter fishing includes sea fishing with line wheel and/or sea fishing rod, and we offer coffee on board our authentic fishing cutter. MS Symra is a traditional fishing cutter, and she turned 100 years old in 2017. She is protected by the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage. Symra is a comfortable boat originally built specifically for Lofotfisket, and she is certified for 38 passengers.
What will you experience?
You are invited to our main office at the pier in Svolvær port 15 minutes before scheduled departure, and will be welcomed by your hosts and crew. Our crew are professional fishermen and know these seas like the back of hand. They provide all the information you need about what you can expect from your day out, safety on board, and they will teach you how to use the fishing tools and equipment featured on board. We then sail out of Svolvær, past the Fisherman’s Wife statue, and head out to the fishing banks we know from experience can provide a good catch.
There are 10 fishing stations on board, so our guests must expect to share these between them on the trip. But do not worry, we expect you will be very satisfied by the time we head back to port. And the catch? We teach you to fillet it on board, and of course you can take it home with you if you wish. The fishing trip takes about four hours, weather depending.
Who is this trip suitable for?
We have made this trip suitable for those who have little or no fishing experience, but who would like to try fishing during the seasonal fishery’s winter conditions. You will receive professional guidance by our crew during the trip, and experience a taste of how Lofotfisket takes place through stories and anecdotes accompanying the activities on board.
Included from our side:
- Suitable fishing kit
- Safety suit which makes you float, and waterproof work clothes
- Coffee
- Our experienced crew and the four-hour fishing trip
What should you bring and wear?
The weather at sea in Lofoten can change rapidly, which is some of the charm of these isles. Fishermen have over hundreds of years learnt what is suitable clothing at sea, and we recommend the same for our guests.
Recommended clothing:
- Wool underwear, which isolates and breathes
- Fleece, wool sweater or another insulating middle layer.
- Hat, mittens that you are not too precious about getting fish smell on, and good boots
