The Bruflat−Tonsåsen stretch of the historic Kings Road that led from Oslo to Bergen is a nice day hike. Since this is a one way tour a second car comes in handy, but there's also the possibility to take the bus. In this case, the tour is prolonged by 3,5 easy kilometers which take less than an hour to walk. Park your car at Bruflat centre and walk along the road towards Fjellsbygde. The path leads right uphill, cutting short many bends of the road and crossing it many times, before it takes its own course shortly after it passes the closed down Breie electricity station. Along the route, there are several information boards. The hike ends where the Kings Road meets road 33 at Tonsbakken. A side trip to Breiesleiren, a renovated camp for refugees from the Second World War, is possible. If you haven't parked a car at Tonsbakken in advance, take the bus to Tonsåsen (JVB line from Fagernes to Dokka, several times a day, inquire for time table) and walk from here straight down the road back to Bruflat.
