With its distinctive design and location by the Lysefjord in Ryfylke, The Bolder is a unique place to stay. Four of the cabins are designed by Snøhetta.
The Bolder is a collection of architectural lodges situated high above the Lysefjord in Ryfylke, near Preikestolen. Offering panoramic views of one of Norway’s most spectacular fjords, The Bolder combines modern architecture, privacy and a close connection to nature.
Four of the lodges were designed by the internationally renowned architectural firm Snøhetta. The lodges are carefully positioned within the landscape to minimise impact on the natural environment, whilst offering guests a unique and private experience with views of the fjord and mountains.
The Bolder is particularly well-suited to travellers seeking architecture, nature, tranquillity and an exclusive lodge stay near Lysefjorden and Preikestolen.
Guests can choose between the Star Lodge, Sky Lodge and Grand Lodge.
Star Lodge
The three Star Lodges are approximately 35 m² and were designed by Snøhetta. Each lodge accommodates two guests and comprises a double bedroom with panoramic views, a spacious bathroom, a designer kitchen by Vipp and a dining area. Large windows bring nature close by, whilst the interior combines Norwegian design, quality materials and a tranquil atmosphere.
The two Sky Lodges are compact, two-storey lodges of approximately 22 m². Each Sky Lodge accommodates up to four guests across two double bedrooms. The lodges feature a designer kitchen by Vipp, a bathroom and a dining area with views of the Lysefjord.
The Sky Lodges are built on a single pillar to minimise their footprint on the landscape. Due to their unique construction, they can sway gently in the wind, which is part of the design.
The Grand Lodge is a lodge of approximately 85 m², designed by Snøhetta. It features two double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious living room, a fireplace and a large designer kitchen by Vipp. In addition, a double bed can be made up in the lounge area, meaning the lodge can accommodate up to six guests.
The Grand Lodge is well suited for couples, families, small groups, private dinners and select corporate events. The dining and lounge area can accommodate up to 12 guests.
The Bolder does not have a restaurant on the premises, but guests can pre-book curated dining experiences for their stay. Breakfast and tapas can be delivered to the lodge and placed in the fridge prior to arrival. For a more exclusive dining experience, a private chef can be arranged at the Grand Lodge on request.
There is a grocery shop in Jørpeland, approximately 10 minutes away by car. Nearby dining options include Preikestolen Basecamp, and Stavanger city centre is approximately 35–40 minutes away by car.
The Bolder is a great base for some of the most iconic nature experiences in the Ryfylke and Lysefjord area. Preikestolen Basecamp is about a 10-minute drive away, and from here the hike to Preikestolen begins – one of Norway’s most famous mountain hikes.
Guests can also explore nearby hiking trails directly from the property, including viewpoints and shorter walks with views of Lysefjorden. For guests seeking organised experiences, we can recommend guided tours, fjord cruises, private RIB/boat safaris on Lysefjorden, kayaking, a sauna and local dining experiences on request.
The Bolder is also ideally situated for day trips to Kjerag, Flørli, Lysebotn and Stavanger.
