KVANNE

Strengen in Surnadal

The top of Strengen is 890 meters above sea level and is a great hiking destinations which can be reached from several places in Surnadal. The most widely used and best-marked route starts at Vang skiarena at Røen on Kvanne. Beside the ski arena there is parking lot on the upper side of the road, and from there the route to Strengen is well marked.

The first part of the trail runs in forests that alternates between coniferous and dense spruce forest. When you come out of the woods, there are fine views of mountains and fjords all the way up. On your way you get information about ancient monuments as pasture farms.  Strengen is a hiking destination that is equally attractive in summer and winter. There are many opportunities to vary the trip. The easiest way is to walk up and down from Vang, and then the trip can be made as an afternoon or evening walk. If you want to extend your trip you can go up from Vang and follow the ridge of Strengen and walk down at Surnadal alpine center. In wintertime it is a good idea to take the ski lift up and walk on the ridge to Strengen. For the first time a ski trail was marked ut from Vang too in the winter season 2015-2016. The route became very popular. On top of Strengen the view is amazing! No less than 290 mountain peaks in three counties and 26 municipalities can be seen from the top. And what makes it particularly interesting is the facility "Fjellviseren" which is located on the top.  Fjellviseren is a metal plate with numbering for all of the 290 peaks, and in the mailbox on the side you will find a booklet listing of names and height for all peaks.
