Rødøy on the Helgeland coast
The enchanted island with chalk-white beaches and Rødøyløva lies in the middle of an endless archipelago, surrounded by towering mountain peaks, deep fjords, and small fishing villages facing the open sea.
The island of Rødøy is a short ferry ride from the mainland and is relatively large, with diverse natural landscapes. Here, you’ll find sandy beaches, hiking trails, islets, coves, forests, and mountains. There’s something for everyone, whether you want to enjoy the views from the Sherpa staircase leading up to Rødøyløva, explore the "Adventure Forest" with the kids, or spend relaxing days exploring the coastline by boat or kayak.
Rødøy’s history stretches far back. With its large, sheltered harbor right along the main coastal route, it’s no surprise that Rødøy has been an important hub for church and trade along the Helgeland coast. You can explore this history at Rødøy Church, built in 1885, and in the museum exhibit at Falch Gamle Handelssted.
Rødøy is also a municipality with many other islands, including Gjerøy, Rangsundøya, Selsøyvik, Hestmannøy, Nordnesøy, and Myken. A combination of express boats and ferries connects these islands, and each has a guest dock for visitors arriving by private boat. Each island also offers unique dining options and great hiking opportunities, both on land and on the water.
