Memurubu is a staffed private tourist lodge in Lom. The lodge is idyllically located below Besseggen—by the mountain lake Gjende—and is the most natural starting point for hikes across Besseggen.

Memurubu was built in 1872 and for centuries has been a popular excursion destination for both animals and people. The beautiful and sheltered location at the mouth of the Muru River, in the middle of Gjende, makes Memurubu a perfect base for exploring Jotunheimen and for many of the most well-known mountain hikes in the area.

Today, Memurubu is a modern tourist lodge with 150 beds distributed across high-standard rooms, and it is a natural starting or ending point for the iconic hike across Besseggen.

Here you can enjoy a three-course dinner in the mountain restaurant, breakfast, and a packed lunch for your hike. The lodge is also part of Høgruta in Jotunheimen, and a perfect starting point for trips to Surtningssue, Besshø, and Bukkelægret.

Even if you are not staying at the lodge, you are warmly welcome to stop by the café for hot and cold drinks, waffles, snacks, and light meals.

Season: Winter (March–April) and summer (June–September).
Getting there (summer): By the Gjende boat from Gjendesheim or Gjendebu.
Getting there (winter): Ski across Gjende from Gjendesheim, or by scooter transport.
