Lillehammer Art Museum is located in a unique building designed by Snøhetta, in the centre of Lillehammer. The permanent collection comprises Norwegian visual art from the 1830s up until today, and the museum also presents temporary exhibitions featuring Norwegian and international art.
Lillehammer Art Museum is one of Norway’s leading art museums. The collection consists of over 1800 works dating from the 19th century to the present day. Part of the collection is always on show.

The museum building was designed by Snøhetta for the Lillehammer Winter Olympics in 1994.
THE COLLECTION – favorites and surprises
In 2024, we present our permanent art collection through an entirely new exhibition that focuses, among other things, on periods such as national romanticism, mood painting, post-war, and contemporary art. In the new collection you will be able to experience art from well known artists such as Johan Christian Dahl, Frits Thaulow, Harriet Backer, Carl Larsson, Edward Munch, Henrik Sørensen, Helene Schjerfbeck, Jakob Weidemann, Anna-Eva Bergman, Mette Tronvoll, Matias Faldbakken, Jana Winderen and many more. BONNARD AND THE NORDIC COUNTRIES
Bonnard's colorful Parisian street scenes, interiors, Mediterranean garden paintings, and nude portraits inspire audiences worldwide. For the first time in 85 years, Bonnard's works are now being showcased in a comprehensive exhibition in Norway. The exhibition includes a range of Bonnard paintings from leading international museums such as the Musée d'Orsay and Petit Palais in Paris, Musée Bonnard in Le Cannet, National Gallery in Washington, and National museum in Oslo.
In addition, there are works by Nordic contemporary artists who have been inspired by Bonnard. Notable among them are the Norwegian artists as Edvard Munch and Thorvald Erichsen, Ragnar Sandberg from Sweden, and Magnus Enckell from Finland, who have developed their own Nordic colorism since the 1920s.
The exhibitions runs from 14 June until 19 October 2025.
The exhibition is a collaboration with the National Museum in Stockholm and is generously supported by the Sparebankstiftelsen DNB.
