Korgen Camping – An idyll by the Røssåga river

Korgen Camping is idyllically situated on the river Røssåga, which since time immemorial has provided excellent salmon fishing. The campsite offers a tranquil family-friendly holiday stay. Situated midway between the towns of Mosjøen and Mo i Rana, the site is secluded from highway E6.

With the popular Røssåga river right there, avid anglers need only pull out their fishing gear. The river is renowned for its excellent trout and salmon fishing. The nice paths along the river give easy access. There campsite provides the convenience of several lean-tos with campfire spots where you can grill your catch.

Accommodation
Korgen Camping offers five well-equipped winter-insulated cabins, with one or two bedrooms. These are available year round. During the summer, eight additional cabins of simpler standard, each with four beds, are also available. The campsite also has 30 spots for caravans, campers or tents. All have power hook-ups (220V).

The service facility, open June through August, has a communal kitchen and lounge, a laundry room, showers and toilets. The grounds of the campsite have outdoor barbecues, a log-house with an open hearth (årestue), and a playground with trampoline.

Guests have free WiFi access throughout the campgrounds. And travellers will be pleased to know that there are hardly any mosquitoes at Korgen Camping!

Salmon fishing
The river Røssåga, which meanders through the village Korgen, is a very popular salmon river. When English lords came to fish here, year after year in the heyday of the 19th century, sometimes they would hook a salmon that weighed over 25 kg. Today, most of the salmon caught weigh 3–12 kg, but every once in a while a lucky angler will “catch a big one”. The trout, too, weigh a very respectable 2–10 kg.

The campsite’s riverfront has paths that make it easily accessible. Here are several lean-tos with campfire spots. Fly fishing connoisseurs will appreciate that the Røssåga river conditions are ideal for this – and that one part of the river has been reserved exclusively for fly fishing.

Hiking
Korgen Camping is a great holiday base for exploring the area’s beautiful wilderness. Lakes teeming with fish draw local and visiting anglers, winter as well as summer. One of the many popular hiking destinations is Okstindan mountains. For the most phenomenal view, you can ascend Oksskolten (1916 m), the highest peak in Northern Norway. Maybe you also want to visit the striking Rabothytta cabin, perched spectacularly at the edge of Okstindbreen glacier?

Consider driving the old mountain route up to Korgfjellet pass, a far more scenic alternative to the modern highway E6 that speeds through a tunnel. This route is open from Easter and throughout the summer. Korgfjellet offers fine hiking opportunities and wonderful vistas.

Near the mouth of the Sørfjord, only a 20-minute drive away, lies the charming village of Hemnesberget. Here are art galleries, pleasant cafés and marinas. The village hosts several annual festivals. History buffs will want to investigate the battles that took place here during World War II.

There is so much to explore! From Korgen Camping you have access to beautiful fjords, wild mountains end dazzling glaciers.
