The glacier hiking takes place in the heart of the Lyngen Alps – a chain of steep mountains surrounded by fjords. You need no previous glacier walking experience to participate. However, you should be in good shape to do the 14 km hike.
The name Lyngen comes from the northern word logn, which means calm or quiet – and is fitting for this beautiful place that has not yet been discovered by most travelers visiting the northern part of Norway.
You will either have Tom Frode or Helga as your guide when you go on this adventure. Both are locals and know the outback of Lyngen well, and can answer most of the questions you might have about the region.
We start off with a 2-3 hour hike up the Steindalen valley. The trails follows the river, that comes from the glacier. The pace and routes will be adjusted according to your hikingskills and level of fitness.
An introduction to glacier hiking with a specific focus on safety, will be given before and during the activity. Your guide will accompany you through Steindalen and onto the spectacular Steindalen Glacier.
Before entering onto the glacier, we will stop and have a meal and something to drink. All the equipment and information you need for moving around the glacier in a safe manner will be given to you by your guide.
The duration of the hike is approximately 9 hours and the season for it is from the beginning of July until the end of September.
