Bicycle Route - Skei - Stardalen - Skei

This trip will take you to the enchanting Stardalen valley. The trip starts in the centre of Skei, overlooking the Jølstravatnet lake. You will cycle along a busy road the first few kilometres, until reaching Klakegg. The trip continues from Klakegg towards Fonn along a quiet and nice flat road. Stardalen is a busy agricultural community, and you can expect to meet both sheep and cows in the cultural landscape.

This is an eventful cycling trip through the wild scenery of Western Norway, with Haugabreen glacier at a close range and the opportunity for a café break.

The trip starts in the centre of Skei, overlooking the Jølstravatnet lake. Here, you may visit the popular gift shop, Audhild Viken, or buy some food
for the trip.

The first few kilometres will be on a road with some traffic in an open landscape, past pastures and large and small lakes, before turning towards
Stardalen in Klakegg. If you are cycling with children, we recommend you start your trip here to avoid the busy stretch of road.

Stardalen is known as ’the village beneath the glacier’ and boasts a majestic landscape. The steep mountains surrounding you create a wonderful
contrast to the flat and open landscape you are cycling through. You can explore the natural surroundings near the Haugabreen glacier at the head of the valley, or take a detour to some of the neighbouring valleys where you will find buildings remaining from traditional summer pasture farms.

You are likely to encounter goats, sheep, or cows in the busy agricultural village. Stardalen also has a café open in summer if you get hungry.
