Previously there existed 19 different shoe factories in Aurland, and at the peak nearly 100 people where employed as shoemakers. Visit one of the remaining Shoe Factory in Norway and discover the artists at work. In addition to shoe production, the visitor centre offers informative exhibitions, and sale of shoes and other leather artifacts.

The Shoe Factory is based on the Canadian model Économusée. The mission of the Économusée is to promote and keep alive traditional crafts and knowledge. An Économusée is not a traditional museum. It is designed for smaller industries specializing in arts and crafts. They are open for the public, offering an interactive, recreational and enriching experience. Discover the artist at work!
