Sámiid Vuorká-Dávvirat – The Sámi Museum in Karasjok was founded in 1972 as the first Sámi cultural institution in Norway. The museum is a part of the RiddoDuottarMuseat museum foundation.

Today our collection comprises of 5000 objects. This is the largest collection within Sámi cultural history in Norway. The artifacts come from all over Sápmi, in addition to local items from the Karasjok region.

One of the most interesting attractions in the main exhibitions is a display of traditional Sámi clothing, gákti in Sámi. The interior of the museum building is decorated by the renowned Sámi artist Iver Jåks. Visitors can enjoy Jåks’s art in the main entrance as well as in the exhibition rooms.

In the museum shop we offer books about Sámi culture and history, jewelry made by Sámi craftsmen, and other intriguing items. We also sell coffee and other refreshments. There are tables and sitting places for visitors in the museum hall. During warm summer days one can find sitting places also outside, side by side with our Open-air museum showing traditional Sámi buildings. In the Open-air museum we offer digital guided tours with our museum app VAPPUS. The app is available in Norwegian, English, Finnish, and Sámi.
