The DNT cabin Glitterheim is located at an altitude of 1,400 meters northeast in Jotunheimen at the foot of Norway’s second-highest mountain, Glittertinden. Here, the Vole family awaits you with good meals based on traditional mountain fare and a warm cabin atmosphere.
Glitterheim is beautifully located in Veodalen, in the middle of Jotunheimen National Park, and is surrounded by a number of 2,000-meter peaks. Peaks such as Glittertinden, Nautgardstinden, Ryggjehøe, and the “treetop hike” are popular among peak-baggers. The cabin is perfectly situated for great day trips in the area—everything from easy, family-friendly hikes to more demanding summit tours. If you’re going hut-to-hut through the best of Jotunheimen, it’s natural to stop by Glitterheim. From here, there are well-marked trails to other cabins in the area.
The tourist cabin is open with full service from mid-March to mid-April and mid-June to mid-September. Otherwise, self-service access is available with a DNT key.
At Glitterheim you’ll get traditional mountain fare at every meal. Most of the food is made at Glitterheim using old recipes and local ingredients.
Bike or walk to the cabin: Glitterheim is located in Jotunheimen National Park, and therefore it is not permitted to drive a car in. At the national park boundary, the road is closed by a gate. Bike rentals are available here, so you can park for free and bike or walk to Glitterheim.
On foot: approx. 1.5 hours
By bike: approx. 45 min
From the national park boundary to Glitterheim it is 7 km on a hilly gravel road.
In winter you can either ski in, or book transport by scooter or tracked vehicle all the way to the steps at Glitterheim, which is an experience in itself! If you arrive with your own car, you can drive to Veolia in Sjodalen, where there is a parking lot.
Glitterheim is one of the cabins you visit along Haute Route Norge – Høgruta Jotunheimen, a 5-day ski tour through the best of Jotunheimen. You can either use the cabin as a stop on a longer trip, or stay here for several days and explore local mountain peaks.
