The history of Fossberg Hotel:
As far back as 1894, there were two mill operations, two shops, a bakery, and a sexton’s farm with a schoolhouse on the south side of Bøvre (Fossbergom). In 1894, four men joined together and bought Ulstad, and divided the land into four farms: Ulstad nordre, Ulstad midtre, Ulstad søre, and Ulstad nedre søre. Three of the buyers gradually began tourism-related business at Fossbergom. In 1994, these businesses—Fossberg Hotel, Fossheim Hotel, and Nordal Hotel—celebrated their 100-year anniversary!
Operations at Fossberg Hotel got underway before 1900: Ola P. Lund, Skjåk, bought Fossberg in 1926, and until 1946 it was farming, a café, and the steady rental of living quarters that provided the main income. From 1946, they were able to return the hotel to what it had been built for before 1900, and could welcome 12 guests at a time. The first remodeling of the main building was started in 1953, and step by step Fossberg has been rebuilt and changed into the modern hotel Fossberg is today.
