Pendant plus de cent ans, les Ateliers Mécaniques Aker étaient établis à Aker Brygge. Depuis 1986, ce quartier s'est converti en un quartier populaire avec des boutiques, des restaurants, etc... Les anciens bâtiments du chantier naval combinés à une architecture moderne donnent au quartier une touche particulière.

Durant les mois d'été, Aker Brygge est le lieu où se retrouver. La vie y fourmille du matin au soir. Dans la rue piétonne le long du quai, les terrasses de restaurants se succèdent, avec une magnifique vue sur le port et le fjord d'Oslo. Les restaurants et bars d'Aker Brygge comptent en tout 2500 places assises en terrasse !
