The Norwegian Aviation Museum is Norway’s national aviation museum.
Experience Norwegian history through both military and civil aviation history. Get to know about the famous U-2 aircraft and try yourself as a pilot at Newton Flight Academy. At the Norwegian Aviation Museum, you can experience the technological wonders of aviation up close, hear exciting stories and explore strange secrets.
The museum is huge and full of big planes, strange inventions and old objects. With us, you can be sure that there is plenty of room to keep your distance during the corona period, with Northern Europe's largest exhibition of 10,000 square meters.
We're flying! - a journey through Norwegian aviation history
Have you seen the exhibition about how Norwegians became a people who love to fly? We live in an elongated country where the planes and a unique airport network have made it possible to live and work in the districts and in the north. Today, Norwegians are among those who fly the most in the world.
Come to the museum and get to know the history, how we came here, about the aviation pioneers Roald Amundsen and Hans Dons, about the development of passenger aviation, about the efforts in World War II, and much more. In an atmospherically lit exhibition hall, you get close to the planes and the stories.
On the "journey", you get to know the flight school in Canada, where the pilots trained during World War II. You pass the Spitfire icon and several famous fighter jets from World War II.
During the Cold War, Starfighters were transported to Bodø by ship, and towed through the city streets. See the fighter plane up close, and other key aircraft from the post-war air defense. The famous spy plane U-2 "The Black Lady" put Bodø on the world map, and the Soviet head of state threatened to bomb the city.
We recommend that you end your visit with a trip to the top of Bodø Airport's old air traffic control tower. From here you can see the current flight traffic unfold, from the airport which is close by.
To those of you who are afraid it's just about aircraft and technical things: it is not! Here are exciting stories about people who have fulfilled their dream of flying, and a spectacular exhibition landscape to walk in, where you are completely surrounded by history. Here is something to see, learn and experience for everyone, children, young people, adults, families, couples and groups of friends.
