Plusieurs trains par jour partent d'Oslo (durée approximative de voyage de 5 h 30) et de Trondheim (4 à 5 heures de route) jusqu' à Åndalsnes, qui est la gare la plus proche.
D'Åndalsnes il y a des liaisons en bus pour Ålesund et Sjøholt en chaque saison, ou par la route Trollstigen jusqu'à Valldal et Geiranger en été.

En été, vous pouvez embarquer à bord de Hurtigruten (l'Express côtier norvégien) sur son voyage vers le Nord de Bergen, et descendre à Geiranger. En hiver, Hurtigruten n'entre pas le Geirangerfjord, mais fait quand même escale à Ålesund. Vous pouvez ensuite continuer en bus d'Ålesund jusqu'à Geiranger.
Il y a des départs quotidiens de bus express de la région d'Oslo, Trondheim ou Bergen, vers Geiranger ou Ålesund.
