Since Kollsnes started processing gas from the Troll field in 1996, the plant has been constantly expanding. Each year, Kollsnes processes and distributes gas and condensate worth tens of billions of kroner. A system of pipes on the sea-bed pumps dry gas to Europe, whilst the condensate is piped to Mongstad refinery. Future production is expected to increase significantly, with new plants built for the production of propane, butane and naphtha. Kollsnes offers full processing facilities for several of the gas fields in the North Sea. At times, the enormous gas flame at Kollsnes can be seen from several kilometres away. At the natural-gas plant nearby, gas is provided for use in industry and transport - gas-powered ferries and buses can fill their tanks here.
