The tour starts with a film and exhibition at the Coast Museum, where you can learn how the local community has exploited the area’s natural resources over the past 10,000 years. From there you’ll head to the old maritime area in Ovågen, see its old boats and fishing tools and learn about the area’s rich fishing history. In one of the boathouses, the exhibition "I rowed myself out" tells the story of those that fished to feed the families. Next there’s a tour of the oil and gas facilities at Kollsnes. On your way to Kollsnes, you’ll see old and weathered stone drying-houses and mills, but then suddenly find yourself in a science fiction landscape of advanced gas technology. Kollsnes is where raw gas is brought ashore from the North Sea, processed and then sent for use across Europe. Next stop is Herdlevær, a natural gem with a history that stretches back to Viking times, and an abundance of resource-rich fishing places. On the way back you’ll see fascinating, historical sites relating to agriculture and farming.
Booking is essential. The guided tour will greatly enhance your experience of the main exhibition at Kystmuseet. Please contact the museum for further details.
