La ligne du Nordlandsbanen, qui va de Trondheim à Bodø, figure sur la liste des plus beaux trajets en train du monde dressée par Lonely Planet. Le trajet de Trondheim à Mosjøen dure environ cinq heures et il vous en faudra six pour aller jusqu'à Mo i Rana. Comptez trois heures de Bodø à Mo i Rana, et cinq heures de Bodø à Mosjøen.

Le célèbre bateau express Hurtigruten fait escale à Rørvik, Brønnøysund, Sandnessjøen, Nesna, Ørnes, et à Bodø deux fois par jour.
L’E6 traverse le Helgeland de part en part et constitue la route la plus directe vers le nord.
Si vous souhaitez suivre un itinéraire plus touristique, choisissez la Route panoramique de Norvège Helgelandskysten (« la route du littoral » Rv17) qui relie Steinkjer à Bodø. Veuillez noter que cet itinéraire comprend plusieurs traversées en ferry.
