Fjord Norway Vestland EIDFJORD

Overview

The tour starts in Eidfjord Harbor after you get  dressed and receive and a short safety briefing. We will have stops underway, without leaving the boat, where the boat driver will tell you about what you see. You may want to have a camera easily accessible. A stop will be in Hotle where there are goats that will come down and visit you by the boat, another stop is made where you’ll often see seals both in the water and on shore. There is a rich birdlife in Eidfjord, especially of seabirds, but this also varies a bit with the seasons.

When the boat stops at the bottom of the Simadalsfjord, we find ourselves by one of Norway's largest power plants, where the production goes on inside the mountains. We’ll explain a little about the power station, and put it in conjunction with other sights that are not reachable by boat, such as Vøringsfossen waterfall, Hardangerjøkulen glacier and Sysendammen. The Simadalsfjord is visually beautiful, with its steep mountainsides and several small waterfalls.

When we later place ourselves in the middle of the Eidfjord, we will see the Eidfjord community, the mountain farms Kjeåsen and Skår, the Hardangerbridge and Hardangerjøkulen. We’ll tell you a bit about what has shaped nature, people and society. A trip with us can surely affect what you want to see and do after you get back on shore.

One alternative to the power station in Simadalsfjorden is to drive out to the Hardangerbridge to study it from the sea. Here’s a good story about the building process and dimensions. By the way you’ll pass a waterfall that almost falls on the boat on a rainy day, and other sights of cultural-historical significance.

There’s not enough time for both Simadalsfjorden and  the Hardangerbridge on the same trip, so the passengers or the windsituation influences which of the two it will be.

30 - minute tour: NOK 395 per person (for groups 15-24 persons).
60 - minute tour: NOK 620 per person over 14 years, and NOK 395 per person under 14 years (accompanied by an adult).
