Fjord Norway Vestland BERGEN

Do as the Locals (Hike Mount Fløyen)

  • Norway Mountain Guides, Strandkaien 3, Bergen
  • +47 90984316
  •  /  km From You

A short and easy walk with fantastic views starting in Bergen city centre. A guide from Norway Mountain Guides will join you on the hike.

The walk starts in the centre of Bergen, across the Fish Market and up the ‘Tippetue’ route through lush woodland and rich fauna. We see wonderful scenery, the fjord and mountains on this walk in the people of Bergen’s ‘local terrain’. This is an easy walk that is suitable for everyone. The path we take is one of the oldest routes, much used by locals, to the top of Mt Fløyen. We stop en route and enjoy the view of the fjord, and being away from the crowds of tourists. If children come along on the walk, we can tell them stories about goblins and trolls, and maybe we’ll even meet a troll at the top.

Time: Approx. 2 hours
Level: Easy
Terrain: Easy
Height: 0-300 metres
Km: Approx. 3.5 km

This is the walk for people who want to learn about Bergen, Norway and our local culture. As your local guide will tell you: ‘I’m not from Norway, I’m from Bergen’.

This walk can be done all year, but don’t forget that the weather changes quickly. It is important to dress for the elements. The walk takes you up to an elevation of 300 metres, where it is normally a little colder than in the city centre. We follow a good gravel path all the way. When we arrive at our destination, Fløyen, you can walk or take the Fløibanen funicular back down to the city centre (on your own).

We guarantee you a lovely and safe walk in good company and, not least, h spirits!

Rendezvous point/start:
At the entrance to the Tourist Information, Strandkaien 3. The walk starts at 10.00. Note: Be on time, the walk starts at 10.00 sharp.

English and Norwegian. German is understood.

To book:
The walk can be booked on our website until 21.00 the evening before.

A local mountain guide with long experience of the mountains in Western Norway.

Does not include:
The Fløibanen funicular down from Mt Fløyen.

Suitable for everyone, including seniors and children.

Yes, it does rain a lot in Bergen, but the weather is generally very changeable, and the light from the sea and the shifting cloud cover can be very fascinating. No one has ever complained about the weather, although it has been wet and windy on some walks.

Recommended equipment:
Water and windproof jacket, good shoes, a cap, light hat, sunglasses, light gloves and trekking poles. A bottle of water. Camera.
Food: this is a short trip and it is possible to buy food at the top either at Fløyen Folkerestaurant or at Fløistuen Butikk og Kafe.

If you think this walk is too short or easy, we recommend the ‘Classic Bergen’ walk, which is a 5-6 hour walk from Mt Ulriken to Mt Fløyen.
Other walks available on request: Trolltunga, Bergen Alpine and Coast Adventure.
